Called 'La porte de la Méditerranée', Gateway to the Mediterranean Lodève is a medieval town full of history, the Fortified Church can be seen for miles around even on the A75 which passes between Soubes & Lodève. There is a three day medieval festival which takes place in August. A carnival in June and poetry reading in July.

There are plenty of shops covering most requirements as well as the ubiquitous supermarkets. There are many sources of petrol with the supermarket 'SuperU', generally being the cheapest.

The museum in the centre of the town also has art exhibitions at regular intervals.

The many bars and restaurants with outside terraces are excellent for relaxing and observing 'la vie français'. We have recommendations based on our experience.

There is an excellent general market on Saturday mornings, which covers an amazing array of items from food and wine to beds and clocks plus a 'Marche du Terroir', for food and wine only on a Tuesday evening throughout the year.

There are several carnivals in Lodève that are a joy to behold.
